5 things to know to study effectively!

Do you know all the tricks for a good study method?

1. Be prepared.

On the first day of university, at the first lesson, each of us thought: what now? To avoid arriving unprepared and without plans for classes, look up the course and the professor you will have the next day on your university website. Remember to download the course syllabus so that you always know what topics will be covered and what you need to know for the exam.

2. Study everyday and compare notes.

It may sound boring, but setting a minimum goal each day will help you form a healthy habit that will allow you to avoid studying the entire book the day before the exam.

To increase your concentration, set up small study groups or compare your ideas with a colleague at the end of the day. In this way, you can be sure that you have understood the topic well and will have a way of repeating each part of the program from the beginning.

3. Remember that not everything is important.

One of the most common mistakes you will see in the first days of university is to transcribe whatever the professor is saying. This habit will not only make you tired very quickly by increasing the chances of distraction but also increase passive learning.

Instead of transcribing every word, put down your pen, listen, and then write down what you think is necessary. Small tip: bring slides to class so you can follow the discussion without having to rewrite everything.

4. Re-read your notes.

Although lessons alternate and you may not have the same subject the day after, re-reading your notes on the same day is essential. You do not have to study or underline anything, but simply re-read them. This will allow you to understand if your notes clearly reflect the lectures of the professors, which you will still have in mind!

5. Interact with professors.

Remember that professors are not mythological animals! They, just like you, have been students and know exactly what it means to be on the other side. Express your doubts to them, as they would be happy to help you.

A word of advice: it is better to not go to your professors at the end of the lesson as they may not have much time for you. Learn by heart their reception days, as these will be the time when you can talk to them face-to-face and get advice without rushing.
