I interviewed Liza, the hostess of the Dreamando podcast. So curl up under your blanket and read about her and the podcast itself.

1. Hi Liza! Can you briefly introduce yourself and explain your connection to studying and living abroad? Why did you find it interesting?
Hey there, I’m Liza Kummrow, co-host of the Dreamando Podcast. I’ve got a deep-rooted passion for studying and living abroad because it’s been a major part of my life. I’ve always been intrigued by the incredible transformation that happens when you step out of your comfort zone and immerse yourself in a new culture. It’s like a crash course in personal growth! And I started my journey when I was only 16 years old. Leaving my hometown in Germany behind and exploring what the world has to offer was one of the most enriching experiences in my life and I wouldn’t trade it with anything in the world. It still carries me today to embrace new countries, cultures, and people and it all started with taking the leap of faith to do high school abroad in the UK at only 16.
2. What inspired you to start a podcast with Dreamando on this topic?
The idea for the Dreamando Podcast came by conversing with Ciro, the founder of Dreamando. Together we wanted to create a channel to share the magic of studying, living, and working abroad with others by highlighting stories of people who have conquered these experiences so many are longing for. It’s amazing how one adventure can open up a world of possibilities, and we wanted to create a platform where we could explore these journeys together.

We believe that if we can do it, so can you!

6. How do you think studying abroad can benefit students in terms of personal and professional growth?
Studying abroad is a true game-changer. It’s not just about academics; it’s about personal growth, independence, adaptability, and expanding your horizons. And it did that for me. By taking the leap of faith in going abroad to study, I was indulging myself in a whole new world. It opened up my mindset towards the beauty and the possibilities that are out there if you have the courage to leave your hometown behind and go to the place of your dreams to start a new chapter in your life. Trust me it will only be the beginning of a very enriching and life-changing experience. It’s like leveling up in life, and we’ll dive into all the ways it can benefit you personally and professionally in our podcast. So don’t miss out.
7. What resources or tips do you plan to offer on the podcast to help students navigate the process of studying and living abroad?
Thus far, we have shared stories of people who have studied and worked abroad. Their stories are honest accounts of their personal experience of how doing what they did got them to where they are now in life. It is truly inspiring to listen to, and by highlighting these stories we hope to inspire our community to dream and do. We’ve got a treasure trove of resources lined up – from scholarship tips to packing hacks. We want to make your journey smoother and less daunting, so you can focus on the adventure itself.
8. How do you plan on engaging your audience and creating a sense of community around your podcast?
Building a community is essential to us. We have recently launched a Q&A section on Spotify itself – so please feel free to check it out and engage with it. It helps us understand what you are interested in and what we should focus on and explore more in upcoming episodes. We are also very active on social media – Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn – so do connect with us there and engage with us as we love to understand what you need help with and how we can assist you at whatever stage you find yourself at. At the end of the day, we want you to feel like you’re part of the Dreamando family, sharing your stories and learning from others.
9. Are there any specific success stories or memorable moments related to studying and living abroad that you would like to share with your listeners?
Ah, the stories! When it comes to our podcast we have some incredible success stories lined up from people who overcame adversity and went on to achieve remarkable things. So truly every single person we have spoken to is a success story in itself already – because it is this person’s unique navigation through life and how their international experience has helped them both personally and professionally. Trust me; every single story will inspire and motivate you to chase after your dreams.
When it comes to my own personal story of living abroad – my success story is starting off this path 14 years ago. I had no clue that going abroad would lead to where life has taken me. Prepare yourself but don’t overthink. If you have the dream of studying, living, and working abroad do it – embrace it, be about it and go chase that dream of yours. If you are brave enough to take that step I will guarantee you that it will change your life for the better.
10. Lastly, what is your favorite country and why?
That’s a tough one! I’ve fallen in love with so many countries on my journey, but if I had to pick one, it would be Malaysia. The rich culture, delicious cuisine, and the warm embrace of the people make it truly special. From the bustling streets of Kuala Lumpur to the serene beaches of the Perhentian Island, Malaysia has so much to offer. Plus, the food – it’s a food lover’s paradise even for someone like me who lives gluten-free. The fusion of flavors in Malaysian cuisine is simply irresistible. Malaysia truly embodies the spirit of unity in diversity, and that’s what makes it one of my favorite countries to go to.
